The Writer and the Actor both seek to communicate a realization of the human condition, a process which involves personal exploration, a willingness to discover, and a commitment to stepping past the comfort zone. The source is ultimately one's one self.
Many of the tools an Actor employs to access the self are useful for the Writer as well. Exercises in sense memory, emotional recall, uncovering intent, playing an action, establishing realistic subtext, physicalizing character choices, and incorporating what is experienced into your writing form the basis of the Act-Write Intensive. We begin by creating an arena of trust. Basic warmups help you organize and get ready for work.
We outline goals and begin to explore how the Actor's tools can serve your work as a writer. The focus of each intensive is tailored to the specific needs of the group.
THANKS to all for the work you did at our Writers' Recession Special on April 18, 2009!!
